LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Gabby Douglas’ comeback plans hit a snag Thursday, when she announced that she had withdrawn from Winter Cup after testing positive for COVID-19.

The 2012 Olympic all-around champion posted a statement on her Instagram, saying, “Hey guys. I’m so sad to say that I won’t be competing this weekend. I was so excited to get back out on the competition floor, but unfortunately, I just tested positive for Covid. Thank you so much for all of your support and positive energy – it really does mean the world to me. I’m crushed, but I’ll see you guys soon! Sending my best to everyone competing.”

Douglas announced earlier this month that she intended to compete for the first time in nearly eight years – since the 2016 Rio Olympics. The two-time Olympian has been back in the gym training for over a year and has shared promising clips of her routines on bars, beam, and floor, but her competitive comeback will now be delayed until later this spring.
