Oklahoma is seeking its third straight national championship and seventh overall in gymnastics. Florida and Utah have finished second and third at the last two championships, but LSU and California are the favorites this season to potentially upset the Sooners. That being said, Oklahoma has been its dominant self all season, including breaking the NCAA team score record with a 198.950, and is the overwhelming favorite to take the overall title.
Maile O’Keefe could attempt to defend her 2023 all-around title, but she hasn’t competed vault all season. As it stands, Haleigh Bryant (LSU) and Jordan Bowers (Oklahoma) are the favorites. Cal’s eMjae Frazier and Mya Lauzon could also easily claim the title. Others to watch include Jade Carey (Oregon State) and Gabby Wilson (Michigan).
There will be new national champions on three of the four events, as Oklahoma’s Olivia Trautman (vault) and UCLA’s Jordan Chiles (bars, floor) are not in the field due to graduating and deferring for the Olympics, respectively.
All of the events are always a guessing game because of score-building between the afternoon and evening session and plenty of gymnasts could post the top individual score depending on the day. That being said, here are some athletes to watch:
- Vault: Mya Hooten (Minnesota), Emma Silberman (Maryland), Haleigh Bryant (LSU), Jordan Bowers (Oklahoma), Mya Lauzon (California), Katherine LeVasseur (Oklahoma)
- Uneven bars: Courtney Blackson (Boise State), Lily Smith (Georgia), Mara Titarsolej (Missouri), Audrey Davis (Oklahoma), Leanne Wong (Florida), Maddie Williams (California)
- Balance beam: Maile O’Keefe (Utah), Ragan Smith (Oklahoma), Konnor McClain (LSU), Faith Torrez (Oklahoma), Mya Lauzon (California), Chloe Widner (Stanford)
- Floor exercise: Jade Carey (Oregon State), Raena Worley (Kentucky), Chae Campbell (UCLA), Jordan Bowers (Oklahoma), Gabby Wilson (Michigan), Haleigh Bryant (LSU)
