USA Gymnastics announced on Tuesday that it will not hold many of its marquee events in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Included events that will not be held in 2020 are the GK U.S. Classic, U.S. Gymnastics Championships (for women’s and men’s artistic gymnastics), and the USA Gymnastics Championships (for rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline & tumbling, and acrobatic gymnastics).

“In light of recent guidance from health experts, and after receiving feedback from our athletes and coaches, we believe it is in the best interest of our community to wait until 2021 to hold premier events,” said Li Li Leung, USAG’s chief executive officer.

In a Q&A video released on her YouTube channel Monday, MyKayla Skinner and her fellow National Team members Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey, and Riley McCusker revealed none of them voted to have U.S. Championships this year.

The 2020 National Congress and Tradeshow, usually held in conjunction with the U.S. Championships, will be reformatted and held virtually this year.

USAG is still in the process of rescheduling events leading up to the Olympic Games in 2021, with new dates for Olympic Trials, the 2021 National Congress and Tradeshow, and USA Gymnastics Championships set to be announced in the “coming weeks.”

The GK U.S. Classic, previously scheduled for May 23, 2020, at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, will now take place at the same venue on May 22, 2021.

The U.S. Gymnastics Championships, previously scheduled for June 4-7, 2020, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, will also take place in the original venue June 3-6, 2021.

Per USAG, “Tickets already purchased for the 2020 events will be valid for the new event dates; alternatively, as new dates are announced, ticketholders will have the option to request a refund during a specified time period. More information on the 2021 events, ticketing, and refunds will be communicated directly to ticketholders in the coming weeks.”
