COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2024 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships began Friday with two pre-qualifying sessions. Now, the Super Six is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

The six teams competing for the national title are Stanford (417.389), Nebraska (413.523), and Illinois (410.461) from session one and Oklahoma (418.957), Michigan (418.954 (-1.0 ND)), and Ohio State (408.725) from session two.

Oklahoma, Michigan, and Stanford are the three teams expected to battle for the overall title Saturday.

It was a great day of gymnastics all around, with both sessions coming down to the sixth rotation; Illinois overcame California, and Ohio State overcame Penn State to advance to finals tomorrow.

The Stanford Cardinal put up the third highest team score of pre-qualifying and will look to make history tomorrow and become the second team to ever win five consecutive national championships. They will have to defeat Oklahoma and Michigan, both of whom put up numbers in the 418s. Michigan, Oklahoma, and the remaining teams will look to take down the Cardinal dynasty.

Illinois’ Tate Costa (81.999) and Penn State’s Josh Karnes (83.531) won the all-around in their respective sessions. Other notable scores included Oklahoma’s Emre Dodanli on floor (14.866), Air Force’s Patrick Hoopes on pommels (15.266), Michigan’s Javier Alfonso on rings (14.466), Oklahoma’s Max Bereznev on vault (15.0), Stanford’s Asher Hong and Michigan’s Evgeny Siminiuc on parallel bars (14.7), and Michigan’s Fred Richard and Paul Juda on high bar (14.166).

While pre-qualifying featured exceptional showings by many, expect these teams to step it up even more Saturday, including likely seeing more stars in lineups and/or competing in the all-around as the team and individual titles are on the line.

One thing that is guaranteed is an awesome day of gymnastics. Make sure you tune in to finals tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET.

Keep reading for our full play-by-play of both pre-qualifying sessions.

Session 1 features Stanford, Illinois, Nebraska, California, Navy, and Greenville.

Session 2 features Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Air Force, and Springfield.

Three teams and the top three all-arounders not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified as a team or all-arounder, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals.

Stanford is looking to become just the second team in NCAA history to win five national titles in a row – Nebraska is the only other school to have achieved the feat from 1979-1983.
