The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games logo with Santiago, Chile in the background.

The 2023 Pan American Games are set for October 20 to November 5 in Santiago, Chile, with all three Olympic gymnastics disciplines on the program and competing at Santiago’s Centro de Deportes Colectivos.

In addition to crowning Pan American champions, this edition of the games will also serve as a Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier for artistic and rhythmic. For trampoline, the event’s results will produce an Olympic qualifier if nobody from the Americas qualifies for Paris at next month’s world championships.

Keep reading for the full field, when Olympic qualifying spots will be up for grabs, schedule (with Eastern time conversion), and how to watch.

How athletes and nations can qualify to Paris 2024 via the 2023 Pan American Games

Note: These are directly from the official event handbook for each discipline. See more under event files here.

Artistic

In artistic gymnastics, the best-positioned athletes in the individual all-around final competition (one (1) WAG and one (1) MAG, respectively) who have not yet qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with other criteria will obtain direct qualification.

This Olympic berth is by name, meaning the individual has qualified to Paris and their country can’t give it to another athlete.

Individuals are not eligible to obtain a quota place if their country has already qualified a team or they have already qualified individually or their country has already qualified the maximum of three individual athletes.

The following MAG teams have already qualified to Paris and, therefore, their individuals are ineligible for the Olympic quota spot: the United States and Canada.

The following MAG individual has already qualified to Paris and, therefore, is ineligible for the Olympic quota spot: Diogo Soares (BRA).

Note: Brazil MAG also earned an individual spot for the NOC at this year’s world championships, but the nation can still qualify one more MAG individual.

The following WAG teams have already qualified to Paris and, therefore, their individuals are ineligible for the Olympic quota spot: the United States, Canada, and Brazil.

*In addition, Mexico has already qualified the maximum of three WAG individuals and is therefore ineligible for the quota spot.

The following WAG individuals have already qualified to Paris and, therefore, are ineligible for the Olympic quota spot: Alexa Moreno (MEX)*, Hillary Heron (PAN), and Ahtziri Sandoval (MEX).*

Rhythmic

In rhythmic gymnastics, the best-ranked athlete in the individual all around competition and the best-ranked group in the group all-around competition that have not yet qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with other criteria, will obtain direct qualification for said event.

This individual Olympic berth is by name, meaning the individual has qualified to Paris and their country can’t give it to another athlete.

The only group not eligible is Brazil, which qualified to Paris at worlds earlier this year. Brazil is also the only nation to have already earned an individual quota spot via this year’s world championships.

Trampoline

In trampoline, the best-ranked male or female athlete (one (1) across both genders) in the individual final who has not qualified yet, and if there are still quotas available for the Americas after the world championships in November, will obtain one (1) quota spot for their NOC for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This Olympic berth is for the NOC (National Organizing Committee/country) and can be awarded by the NOC to an individual of its choice when and how it sees fit.
