The 2023 Winter Cup is a qualifying event to the 2023 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. At the conclusion of Winter Cup, Men’s junior and senior national teams will be named.

Initial field for 2023 Winter Cup

USA Gymnastics released the initial field of registered athletes for Winter Cup on February 12. This list is not final, and their participation is not guaranteed. The below list will be updated accordingly until the start of the event.

Most notably missing from the field is 2022 U.S. women’s all-around and Winter Cup all-around champion Konnor McClain, who made her return to national team camp at the end of January after a back injury forced her to withdraw from world team selection camp in October.

On the men’s side, reigning Winter Cup all-around champion Vitaliy Guimaraes returns in a bid to defend his title.

The senior women’s field features a long list of up-and-comers in the U.S. elite system, including Tiana Sumanasekera (World Champions), who will be making her senior debut. The only members of the 2022 U.S. women’s world team competing are Skye Blakely (WOGA) and alternate Lexi Zeiss. Three other members of the gold medal-winning team – Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, and Leanne Wong – are in the middle of NCAA season. It is unclear why world all-around silver medalist Shilese Jones is not competing, but she didn’t attend January national team camp either.

The senior men’s field is loaded with NCAA and elite stars, including 2022 world team members Asher Hong (Stanford), Stephen Nedoroscik (EVO), and alternate Yul Moldauer (5280). Fellow world team members Brody Malone (Stanford), Donnell Whittenburg (Salto), and Colt Walker (Stanford) are noticeably absent from the list. EVO Gymnastics, which has quickly become a mega-gym for some of the best men’s gymnasts in the country, also boasts two young stars who will be making their senior debuts: David Shamah and Drake Andrews. Tokyo Olympian Shane Wiskus (EVO) is also in the field.
