FORT WORTH, Texas – They came, they saw, they dominated.

It wasn’t as simple as it sounds, but Maksim Kan (Junior 16) and Dante Reive (Junior 17) led after Day 1 of competition on Thursday and never relinquished those leads on Day 2, ultimately being crowned the U.S. all-around champions for their respective divisions.

Kan won the 16 division by nearly 8 points (156.516), with Hunter Simpson second (148.558) and Troy Holman third (147.550). Reive won the 17 division by nearly 3 points (157.678), with Justin Park second (154.710) and Nartey Brady third (154.142).

Both also took home individual titles, with Kan nearly sweeping the field. He won pommel horse, which he said he was most proud of despite a fall today, as well as floor, vault, and high bar.

Also in the 16 division, Kiefer Hong won still rings and Christian Bart-Williams won parallel bars.

Reive won parallel bars and high bar, saying he hadn’t felt “like that” on high bar “in a while.” He was the only athlete in the field to score over 13 both days on the event.

Also in the 17 division, Nathan Roman won floor, Wyatt Reynolds won pommel horse, Nartey Brady won still rings, and Chase Pappas won vault.

Of his dominating 8 point victory, Kan said it was “kind of a lot – way more than I expected to win by.”

The up-and-coming talent, who graduates in 2026 and hasn’t started the NCAA recruiting process yet, trains at Salto Gymnastics, where world medalist and longtime Team USA stronghold Donnell Whittenburg trains.

For the most part, Whittenburg has different practice times than the juniors, but occasionally they’ll be in the gym together. Kan said Whittenburg has been a great mentor to him and his teammates, trying to help them as much as he can while continuing to chase his own Olympic dream.

“When I get to [train with him], it’s incredible,” Kan said. “Just having that level of higher gymnastics to be practicing with, it’s just a completely different feeling.”

Reive is also in a motivating training environment as the son of Army head coach JD Reive. Him and his brother, Silas, train in the same gym as the Black Knights, with practices overlapping at times. They both spend time hanging out with the team in the gym and at other events.

While Reive did compete in the 17 division this week, he is also graduating in 2026 due to a late birthday in October. Most everyone else in the 17 field this weekend graduates next year.

Nathan Roman, who was second after Day 1 for the 17s, just had a rough go of it on parallel bars. Sat down on the apparatus multiple times, form issues, missed handstands. Did get through without coming off the apparatus though, finishing with a double back and a step forward. That will be a very low score though. Maybe a conditioning issue – just seemed like he couldn’t muscle through the set.

      Thu. May 30 @ 1:51 p.m.

We have another scary fall, this time on high bar. It’s Salto’s Anthony Ruscheinsky. He hit the mat and wasn’t moving. Medical is now attending to him and he’s rolled over, flat on his back, and they’re talking through what’s happened, making sure to not move anything. Looks like his coach is comforting him with a hand on his arm and signaling to him, ‘No, we’re not continuing.’ He walks off of his own accord.

      Thu. May 30 @ 1:49 p.m.

Danila Leykin (EVO) PB: Leykin is off early in a scary fall and it looks serious. After sitting there for a moment under the bars, he gets up, walks over to the side of the podium and sits down on the mat, where medical is currently attending to him. It seemed like he was chalking back up but then his coach comes over to him. Looks like he’s point at his hand/wrist. Danila is clearly emotional. He then hops off the podium and will not finish the routine.

      Thu. May 30 @ 1:42 p.m.

Kiefer Hong (Cypress) goes for the double front on vault and is way over-powered – roles forward onto his head. Seems to have a handle on it, despite what will count as a fall, and walks off.

      Thu. May 30 @ 1:41 p.m.

Nartey Brady goes 14.250 on vault.

      Thu. May 30 @ 1:41 p.m.

Divier Ramos (Interstate) HB: Straddle Tkatchev. Piked Tkatchev. Hop 1/1. Clear hip. STUCK full-twisting double back. Very clean set! 12.600 (9.1 E)
