ACC Gymnastics Week 11 Recap: Non-conference meets wrap regular season

This week in ACC gymnastics, NC State hit the O’Dome, and Clemson touched down at Pauley Pavilion for two big road meets, with each posting scores of 196.825. North Carolina also went on the road, posting their highest road score of the season against the LSU Tigers, as Pitt competed in Nashville at the Kidney Care meet.

Next up: All four teams will compete at the ACC Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m. ET.

#18 NC State @ #4 Florida quad

Final score: Florida: 197.900, NC State: 196.825, Iowa State: 195.825, LIU: 192.025

NC State started a little slow with a 48.9 on bars, which was 0.450 lower than last week’s team total. Emily Shepard led the team with a 9.825.

On beam, the Wolfpack picked up some steam, scoring a 49.375 after three 9.875s from Macy Jennings, Alexis Ortega, and Shepard. To cap it off, Chloe Negrete fired a 9.925 in the anchor spot to tie for the event title.

NC State moved to floor to notch a 49.3 after two 9.9s from Krista Zultevicz and Negrete. Negrete then led the team to a season-high 49.250 on vault after a stuck Yurchenko full to notch a career-high 9.925 and her third 9.9 + of the day. The Wolfpack took second in the quad to Florida.

Clemson @ #11 UCLA

Final score: UCLA: 198.550 – Clemson: 196.825

Competing at Head Coach Amy Smith’s alma mater, Clemson started off the night slow on bars. The Tigers had to count a 9.4 to post a 48.7, which was 0.700 lower than last week. Lilly Lippeatt led the Tigers with a 9.875.

The team made up for bars when they moved to vault, firing a 49.450 – a season high. Eve Jackson earned a 9.9, and Molly Arnold stuck her Yurchenko 1.5 to notch a 9.975 to achieve a career high.

The Tigers continued their momentum on floor, where Lippeatt earned a 9.9 and Jackson notched a 9.925 to lead the way for Clemson en route to a 49.375.

They ended their day on beam – an event that has gotten the best of them at times this season, but not in this meet. Rebecca Wells and Kielyn McCright posted matching 9.925s to earn a 49.3 on the event and their highest road score of the season (196.825).

North Carolina @ #2 LSU

Final score: LSU: 198.250 – North Carolina: 196.075

Down in the Bayou, North Carolina started off shaky on bars, where they had to count a fall after two missed releases. They posted a 48.425 with the highlight coming from Gwen Fink’s 9.875 to lead the team.

On vault, the Tar Heel’s gained more confidence as they posted a 49.125 after a stuck Yurchenko full by Lali Dekanoidze that scored a 9.9.

The squad built off vault to post a season-high 49.3 on floor, with Louisiana natives Kaya Forbes and Julia Knower going back-to-back with 9.9s.

The Tar Heels ended their night with another season high of 49.225 on beam to help them achieve their best road score of the season (196.075).

Pitt @ Kidney Care quad

Final score: UGA: 197.450, Maryland: 196.725, Iowa: 196.525, Pitt: 195.925, Talladega: 192.500

Pitt began the day on their weakest event: beam. They showed a 0.300 improvement from last week, but could only reach a 48.825 score after only two 9.8s for the team from Carla Ferzoco and Hallie Copperwheat.

The Panthers gained momentum as they moved to floor. They earned a 49.125, led by a 9.85 from Ciara Ward, but couldn’t break into the 9.9s. 

On vault, the team posted a 49.0, which was led by Jah’Liyah Bedminster in the anchor position to earn a 9.85.

The Panthers ended their day on bars with a 48.975, highlighted by Jordyn Ewing’s 9.85, and overall finished fourth out of five teams.
