Week 5 of the 2021 NCAA Gymnastics season was a bye week for many teams, but there was still plenty of exciting gymnastics performances over the weekend for both the men and women.

On the women’s side, No. 22 Auburn narrowly lost to No. 2 LSU 197.550 – 197.075, with Auburn junior Derrian Gobourne posting a near-perfect 9.975 on floor to close out Friday Night Lights. On Saturday, No. 25 Boise State defeated No. 23 Utah State in a nail biter 196.350 – 196.250, while the Broncos’ uneven bars specialist, Emily Muhlenhaupt, is still on the hunt for a perfect 10 after posting a 9.975 on the apparatus – her third score of 9.950 or higher this season. On Sunday, the Oklahoma Sooners bounced back after a tough Week 4 to post the second highest team score in the country this season with a massive 197.800.

For the men, while most teams were off, the biggest story was No. 6 Penn State’s second straight week coming out on the winning side of a close battle – this time with Nebraska, with the meet marking the Cornhuskers’ season opener. Freshman Michael Jaroh was the star for the Nittany Lions, winning three event titles and scoring a 14.000 on high bar – the second-best mark in the nation on the event this year.
