Georgia graduate student and all-arounder Haley de Jong is out for the season after being injured before the GymDogs’ opening meet against NC State last weekend.

The Georgia athletic department confirmed de Jong’s status to Gymnastics Now on Wednesday.

De Jong has been a key contributor for the Bulldogs since joining the team in 2020. She started competing in the all-around in 2021. In 2023, she became one of the three first-ever captains for the GymDogs, was an AAI Award nominee, and was named the team MVP after contributing the greatest number of points throughout the season. All of de Jong’s career highs are in the 9.9s – 9.9 on vault, 9.925 on bars, and 9.95 on beam and floor.

It’s another major loss for the Bulldogs, who were ranked 16th in the WCGA preseason poll and earned a 196.200 in their season opener despite losing de Jong and freshman Kelsey Lee shortly before the the meet, ultimately having to put up only five (instead of six) vaulters.

Lee and fifth-year Vanessa Deniz are also out for the season. Deniz announced on January 1 that her competitive career was over and her role with the team would change for her fifth and final season with the Bulldogs.

De Jong hasn’t made an announcement as it pertains to what her next steps will be.
