TAMPA, Fla. – WOGA’s Madray Johnson topped a strong field of juniors on Friday afternoon at the 2022 OOFOS U.S. Gymnastics Championships at Amalie Arena.
Johnson found the sweet spot between difficulty and consistency, finishing fourth or better on all four events to earn a 53.550, with her top marks of the day coming on bars (13.650) and beam (13.300).
U.S. Classic champion Jayla Hang (Pacific Reign) trailed Johnson with a 53.000, despite besting the field on vault (14.250) with her clean double-twisting Yurchenko and beam (13.550). Floor was the biggest detractor for Hang, who finished T-16 with a 12.350 on the event.
Rounding out the top 3 was Love Gymnastics’ Alicia Zhou, who earned the top score on bars with a 13.750.
Nos. 4, 5, and 6 were Audrey Snyder (First State) with a 51.450, Dulcy Caylor (World Champions) with a 51.400, and Zoey Molomo (Metroplex) with a 51.350.
Junior standout Tiana Sumanasekera (West Valley) started strong with a 14.150 on vault but took a hit on bars after a fall (10.950). She finished the day with a high-flying floor set (13.550) – good enough for first on the event.
