2020 Artistic European Championships will go on but in a different country

European Gymnastics announced Monday that the rescheduled 2020 Artistic European Championships set for December will go on, albeit with some slight modifications.

Firstly, contrary to previous announcements, the December championships will not count toward Olympic qualification due to the current status and impact of the pandemic. This decision was announced last week. Although not yet confirmed, the 2021 European Championships will likely become the Olympic qualifying “continental championship” event for Europe.

In addition, after the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation–the previous host for the December event–notified European Gymnastics that no major events can be hosted in the country until the end of 2020, the European Gymnastics Executive Committee has announced that the both the men’s and women’s championships will move to Mersin, Turkey.

The men’s championships will still be held from December 9-13, 2020. The women’s championships will be held the next week from December 17-20, 2020.
